ACCE, IHE launch project for device interoperability
The American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE) and the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise initiative (IHE) today announced that the ACCE will be the sponsor of the IHE Domain for Patient Care Devices (PCD).

The PCD has been created to develop standards for communicating patient information efficiently throughout the healthcare enterprise and developing a framework for the integration of medical device data into the electronic health record (EHR). The initiative seeks to enable vendors to cooperate in this process, but also aims to give medical practitioners and information technology professionals an advisory role.

ACCE will host a kick-off meeting in Washington, D.C., on September 29-30, 2005. The organizations have requested the participation of medical device industry experts, clinicians, information technology leaders and clinical engineers to participate in the project.
