Elekta event at AAPM offers IGRT advances
Participants attending the annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) this week in Pittsburgh, Pa., witnessed advances in image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) with Elekta Synergy Research Group members currently utilizing Elekta Synergy.

Elekta calls Synergy "the first radiation treatment platform with an integrated imaging system." The technology enables doctors to obtain images of patients at the point of treatment, allowing them to visualize tumors at the time of treatment and more precisely target tumors, while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.

The five centers that make up the Elekta Synergy Research Group group are Christie Hospital, Manchester, United Kingdom; The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), AvL Hospital, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada; William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Mich.; and Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.
