GE displays new LightSpeed CT unit for radiation therapy at ASTRO
GE Medical Systems unveiled the LightSpeed RT computed tomography (CT) system at the 45th annual American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, this week.

The multi-slice scanner features an extra-wide gantry opening, a wide display-field-of-view and a series of advanced oncology applications, including GE's Advanced Sim, Advantage Fusion and the Advantage 4D respiratory gating package.

The Advantage 4D is GE's respiratory gating software for tumor and organ motion assessment and margin localization. The radiation imaging tool incorporates Varian Medical Systems RPM Respiratory Gating device.

In addition, the system comes bundled with Xtream Technology, GE's new workflow productivity engine that delivers rapid image reconstruction and real-time gigabyte image transfer rates to review stations or PACS.

LightSpeed RT was on display in Varian's booth at ASTRO this week.
