Hologic improves expectations of Selenia system sales

Hologic Inc. on Wednesday announced it expects to sell more Selenia full field digital mammography systems in the second half of its fiscal 2006 year than originally projected. The expectation now is for sales of 130 Selenias in the third quarter and another 140 in fiscal fourth quarter. This is in contrast to the 120 in Q3 and 122 in Q4 previously projected in April. Overall, the company forecasts it will sell 478 Selenia units in fiscal year 2006.

“Demand for digital mammography systems continues to grow in the wake of the DMIST results published last September,” said Glenn Muir, cxecutive VP and CFO, Hologic.  “In the four-year study of 49,000 women, the accuracy of digital mammography was found to be significantly higher than film-based mammography in an important subset of women which comprised 65 percent of the study population.”
