The American Society of Radiologic Technologists’ Education and Research Foundation granted four scholarships, worth $5,000 each, as part of the Monster Imaging Educators Scholarship Program. This new scholarship program was created by ASRT and online career and recruitment website Monster, to promote the recruitment and retention of talented medical imaging educators. The scholarships will be awarded annually through 2008. The recipients are:

• Maureen R. Firth of Haledon, N.J., enrolled in a radiologic and imaging sciences master’s degree program at Thomas Jefferson University;
• Marti Flores of Brownsville, Texas, enrolled in a curriculum and instruction education doctorate degree program at the University of Houston;
• Gregg Kurita of Pinole, Calif., enrolled in an educational leadership and change doctorate degree program at Fielding Graduate University; and
• Candace R. McNamara of Brandon, S.D., enrolled in a master’s in business administration degree program at the University of Sioux Falls.

Northwestern University will offer a Master of Science in Medical Informatics (MMI) degree program with an online option, starting in January. The hope is to make the program available to students all over the world via the web. The MMI is an eleven course program that focuses on the study and application of principles of information management, design, integration, implementation, and evaluation of enterprise-wide healthcare information systems. The MMI program is offered by Northwestern School of Continuing Studies in partnership with the Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. David Liebovitz, chief medical informatics officer for the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and medical director for clinical information systems at Northwestern Memorial Hospital is the program director.
