Kennedy bill looks to promote personal health records
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) recently introduced legislation designed to give physicians an incentive to provide their patients personal health records (PHRs). Generally, the bill is called the Personalized Health Information Act (HR 6289) and would provide a $2 payment to doctors for every patient that they help to activate a PHR. The records would contain information such as the doctor’s diagnoses and whatever prescriptions that have been written for treatment. The idea behind the legislation is to try to generate some momentum in physician and patient use of PHRs.
