Standards expert to give harmonization presentation
The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12, a cross-industry data exchange standards body, has announced that John D. Halamka, M.D., chair of the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), will present a standards harmonization session later this month at ASC X12’s Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Information Forum in Boston.

ASC has coordinated this presentation right now because the industry is “at a time when the values of cooperation and collaboration are essential to the success of standards harmonization,” said Alexandra Goss, chair, Insurance Subcommittee. “The ASC X12 HIPAA Information Forum will provide attendees with a richer understanding of complementary standards initiatives that will impact their standards development, enterprise implementation and industry interaction.”

Halamka coordinates electronic standards harmonization among numerous stakeholders nationwide. His presentation is dubbed “Standards Harmonization: First Work Products” and will take place on Sept. 27 at The Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.

This session is a part of ASC X12’s HIPAA Information Forum. There will also be a follow-on legislative update provided by Don Bechtel of Siemens Medical Solutions, a standards expert and ASC X12 representative to HITSP.
