President of Ohio radiology company indicted on $2M x-ray billing scheme

The president of Portable Radiology Services in North Canton, Ohio has been indicted for defrauding Medicare and Medicaid of nearly $2 million for billing x-ray services that were never rendered, reported Cleveland 19 News.

Thomas G. O’Lear, 55, has been charged with 25 counts of healthcare fraud and one count of false statements for his company’s billing scheme that went on from January 2013 through December 2017, according to 19 News. That included more than 150 instances in which Portable Radiology Services claimed to have provided x-rays to patients who were already deceased.

According to the report, O’Lear sought to cover up the fraud by forging signatures of medical professionals to make it seem the x-rays had been administered to patients.

Portable Radiology Services provided portable x-ray services to patients in nursing homes and other care facilities.
