Swiss-based medical equipment start-up Pristem recently secured $14.4 million (12.3 million euros) to begin producing its digital radiology solution designed to bring technologically advanced medical imaging to low-income countries.
The “all-in-one” imaging system is based off of “advanced technologies” developed in Switzerland, according to a press release. The final product will be released within the next two years and promises to be cheap, user-friendly and bring medical imaging into remote areas of the world.
“I'm delighted to see the great enthusiasm for this project among the scientific, student and now investor communities,” said Klaus Schönenberger, the program director at EssentialTech—which led the project—in a news story. “This shows that we share the same vision of universal access to essential technologies, particularly in the medical field."
More than 100 researchers, doctors, engineers, technicians and students from institutions in Africa and Switzerland have contributed to this project.
The system prototype will be presented to the public on October 29 at a University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Western Switzerland event, according to the release.
