New York patient discharges gun in MRI room, charged with reckless endangerment

A Long Island, New York, man was arrested last month after a handgun he possessed fired and injured him while in an MRI room, according to a June 20 report from the LI Herald.

Frank Chester went to Stand-Up MRI in the village of Lynbrook on May 14. Before he underwent aa MRI, a loaded .38-caliber handgun discharged in his pocket, according to Lynbrook police department officials. 

Though he had a gun license and legally possessed the firearm, Chester was arrested by Lynbrook police and charged with reckless endangerment. 

The magnets in the MRI machine caused Chester's gun to discharge, according to the article. Facility employees had also asked Chester to remove any metal he may have had on him before entering the MRI room.
