RSNA 2018: President's Address will emphasize AI, advanced technology in radiology

At this year's 2018 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)'s annual meeting in Chicago, RSNA President Vijay Rao, MD, will open the meeting with her President's Address to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced imaging technologies as well as radiologists needing to expand their knowledge beyond imaging will provide better patient care.

“The time has come for radiologists to position themselves to provide leadership in driving this field to the next level,” Rao said in a prepared statement published by the RSNA on July 19. “Radiologists will have to increase their knowledge of all aspects of diseases and data science aside from just the imaging aspects.”

Rao has been a member of the RSNA Board of Directors since 2011 and is currently a professor and chair of radiology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and senior vice president and chair of enterprise radiology and imaging at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia.

Recognized as a leading expert on imaging of the head and neck, Rao has published over 220 peer review articles, served on the editorial boards of various radiology journals, has held leadership roles in many national organizations including the American Association for Women Radiologists (AAWR) and has received numerous awards for her leadership and service to the field of radiology.
