Loyola radiologist receives award for top clinical research paper

Jennifer Lim-Dunham, MD, and colleagues at Chicago's Loyola University Medical Center took home the Society for Pediatric Radiology’s Walter E. Berdon Award for best clinical research paper during the group’s annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

The winning study determined that ultrasound guidelines recommended by the American Thyroid Association can accurately identify pediatric thyroid cancer patients who should undergo biopsy, according to a news release. The 2017 findings were published in Pediatric Radiology.

Lim-Dunham and colleagues concluded their findings from the study writing the guidelines "may provide an appropriate and reproducible method for estimating risk of malignancy for pediatric thyroid nodules.”
