Athens hospital installs R2 Technology's 1st lung CAD system
R2 Technology Inc.'s first lung multi-detector CT (MDCT) ImageChecker CT CAD (computer-aided detection) has been installed at the 222-bed IASO General Hospital in Athens, Greece.

R2's ImageChecker CT CAD system with OmniCAD technology was introduced in Europe in March.

CAD algorithms automatically detect suspicious areas of interest to increase the detection of cancer and other abnormalities. R2's ImageChecker is used to detect lung nodules in MDCT images of the chest. Detecting lung cancer can be difficult in its early stages, but statistics show that doing so increases a patient's survival rate.

R2's ImageChecker CT LN-500 system is FDA-cleared in the United States, while the ImageChecker CT LN-1000, which includes CAD software, is pending 510(k) approval.

R2 anticipates furthering its OmniCAD technology for other CT applications, such as pulmonary embolism detection, temporal comparison and follow-up abnormalities, and other imaging modalities, such as chest CR/DR.
