‘You are not the only single parent’: Fired rad technologist sues employer claiming discrimination

A radiologic technologist is suing her former employer for wrongful termination after she couldn’t come to work because the covid-19 pandemic left her without any options for child care.

Yuliya Lykhonosov, a single parent of two children, filed her lawsuit Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming Olympia Medical Center violated the California Family Rights Act and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, CBS Los Angeles reported Thursday.

According to the news outlet, Lykhonosov last May told her supervisor she couldn’t work because a positive COVID-19 test forced her child’s day care to close indefinitely and no other organizations were open due to the pandemic.

Lykhonosov was in contact with Olympia human resources who told her “you are not the only single parent” and “you are not the only one who is without child care,” CBS reported.

After more back and forth, Olympia sent Lykhonosov a letter telling her to return to work on July 22. She was fired that day for not coming back.

Los Angeles-based Olympia is set to close on March 31 for an unknown amount of time to complete “substantial renovations,” according to CBS. It didn’t reply to the news outlet’s request for comment.
