Radiologist arrested for illegally prescribing drugs, lying about past conviction

A South Carolina radiologist has been arrested for allegedly prescribing a controlled substance illegally, creating fake medical records and lying about a prior drug conviction, Myrtle Beach Online reported Friday.

The South Carolina Bureau of Drug Control arrested Christopher W. Degn, MD, on Thursday. According to a local news outlet, Degn has been a physician with Carolina Radiology Associates in Myrtle Beach since 2019, specializing in body imaging.

In 2016, he was sentenced to almost a year in jail for possessing a controlled substance and two counts of driving under the influence. Jail time for both charges was eventually suspended, but in July Degn allegedly lied about the incident on a state application to administer controlled substances

An arrest warrant revealed that Degn illegally prescribed amphetamines to his girlfriend in October without establishing an appropriate professional relationship and omitting proper documentation, according to the Myrtle Beach news organization. And during a search warrant exercised at Carolina Radiology Associates, Degn admitted to creating fake patient medical records, according to documentation obtained by reporters.
