3D-printed titanium skull transplant performed in South Korea

South Korean surgeons have successfully performed a transplant replacing a woman’s skull with a new 3D-printed titanium version.

The procedure, showcased on 3DPrint.com, performed at Chung-Ang University Hospital in Seoul, used a customized model of the patient’s skull printed in 3D from results of CT scans to fit the woman’s anatomy precisely.

The doctors called the successful operation a significant advancement toward limiting the damage from head injuries and illness.
