Sunquest Information Systems, a provider of laboratory and diagnostic information systems, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the London-based Anglia Healthcare Systems Ltd. (AHSL), a provider of laboratory connectivity, orders, reporting and messaging solutions.

The Tucson, Ariz.-based Sunquest said the acquisition will broaden its presence with a combined solution set that delivers web-based functionality, enabling electronic requesting and reporting between the laboratory and general practitioners (GPs) and clinicians in primary and secondary care.

Combining Sunquest's laboratory information systems, anatomic pathology systems and RIS with AHSL’s ICE portfolio will enable connectivity, communications and messaging across the continuum of care between patient administrative systems, laboratory information management systems and RIS, the GP office, secondary care-based systems and patients.

“This agreement emphasizes Sunquest's commitment to the U.K. and international markets," said Richard Atkin, president and CEO of Sunquest.

The acquisition is expected to complete during November.
