Aetna expands PHR access
Aetna has made its CareEngine-powered personal health record (PHR) available to current Aetna Medicare members who purchased Medicare plans individually.

The insurer said its PHR combines health information gathered from physician offices, labs, diagnostic treatment and pharmacies with user-entered information, such as family history or allergies, housing it in a secure, online location.

Aetna said it discovered that members with an ongoing health condition were twice as likely to use their PHR as those without one. In part because of this finding, the payor said the Health Trackers feature allows members to monitor health vitals such as blood glucose levels, body mass index, blood pressure and cholesterol.
