AMA issues CPT code for new lung cancer detection technology
The American Medical Association (AMA) has released a new Category 1 CPT code for use of electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB), used in the detection of lung cancer.

According to Minneapolis-based superDimension, which develops invasive interventional pulmonology devices, the CPT code will add convenience to hospitals when submitting ENB procedure reimbursements. ENB, an invasive, outpatient procedure that involves a catheter insertion through the nose or throat to biopsy lung lesions, helps oncologists distinguish spots on the lung.

The CPT code will be effective starting Jan. 1, 2010. According to superDimension, more than 9,000 patients have undergone ENB procedures in hospitals globally.
