ASRT Donates $10,000 for Disaster Relief Efforts

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The American Society of Radiologic Technologists will donate $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster relief efforts in central Oklahoma following tornadoes there May 19 and 20. The donation is on behalf of the ASRT’s 151,000 members.

“We send our deepest sympathy to everyone affected by these devastating storms, especially to those who lost loved ones,” said ASRT President Donna Thaler Long, M.S.M., R.T.(R)(M)(QM), FASRT. “Our thoughts are with the people of Oklahoma as they recover and rebuild.”

Nearly 600 ASRT members live in the five Oklahoma counties that have been declared disaster areas by the federal government. “The damage is heartbreaking, and members from around the country have asked how they can help with the recovery efforts,” said Ms. Long. “We believe the best way to assist is by financially supporting organizations such as the Red Cross, which are providing immediate assistance with shelter, food and disaster relief. The ASRT is honored to be able to make this financial donation on our members’ behalf.”

The ASRT also will make a separate donation to the Red Cross to match contributions collected by its 120 employees. “We will match, dollar for dollar, the contributions raised by our staff,” said ASRT Chief Executive Officer Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, CAE.

Based in Albuquerque, N.M., the ASRT is a long-time supporter of the national and local chapters of the American Red Cross. “Red Cross is committed to serving those affected by disaster, and we are fortunate to have partners like ASRT,” said Rahim Balsara, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross in New Mexico. “We sincerely thank all the members of ASRT for their generosity and support of Red Cross efforts.”
