Atherotech promotes execs to new positions
Atherotech, a Birmingham, Ala-based cardio-diagnostic company, has promoted executives Mike Mullen, Bob Shufflebarger and Scott Rezek to new leadership roles.

Chief financial officer (CFO) Mullen will lead Atherotech as president; Shufflebarger, who was the vice president (VP) of operations, will now assume expanded duties as chief operating officer; and Scott Rezek, who was leading marketing, will assume expanded duties as VP of commercial operations, according to the company.

Mullen has accounting and finance executive experience, along with combined accounting and laboratory sciences. As CFO, Mullen worked to promote Atherotech's Vertical Auto Profile (VAP) cholesterol test to physicians and expand business-to-business diagnostic lab sales. He previously served as the controller at Atherotech, where he managed the accounting, reimbursement and accounts payable departments.

Shufflebarger, who has been with Atherotech since 2000, previously worked with early stage technology companies. Prior to Atherotech, he managed marketing and business development activities for Southern Research Institute, a contract research organization in Birmingham, Atherotech said.

Rezek's new duties will include sales, customer service and business development in addition to marketing the VAP Cholesterol Test and Atherotech.
