Philips names new CEO
Philips Medical Systems today announced the appointment of Brent Shafer as executive vice president and CEO, sales and service region for North America. Shafer reports directly to President and CEO Jouko Karvinen.   

Shafer is focusing on taking advantage of the company's complete breadth of products and technologies to continue growth and increase overall market share, Philips said.

Previously, Shafer has held positions at the Patient Environment Division at HILL-ROM, Inc. where he was vice president and general manager, and before that as vice president of the Americas and Asia Pacific sales divisions.

Shafer career started with Johnson & Johnson. He then moved to Hewlett-Packard‚s Medical Products Group where he held various key sales management positions. In 1996, Shafer joined GE Medical Systems, where he held a number of positions in sales, marketing and general management, which included x-ray and cardiology, Philips said.
