Siemens unveils new mammography system, to release ultrasound platform
CHICAGO, Nov. 28—Siemens Medical Solutions introduced the Mammomat Novation S, a new digital mammography system, and will unveil the Acuson S2000 ultrasound platform, the first system in Siemens' new S Class of ultrasound products at the 93rd annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

The Mammomat is designed for facilities making the transition to digital breast imaging, but do not have the need for advanced diagnostic functionality, Siemens said. The system uses full-field amorphous Selenium detectors, which convert x-ray energy into an electric charge, and for dose, it utilizes the OpComp and OpDose.

Siemens said the ultrasound platform will have capabilities for paradigm-shifting applications, such as acoustic radiation forced impulse (ARFI) imaging and is prepared to integrate its Silicon ultrasound technology. The ACUSON S2000 ultrasound system will feature applications across general imaging, including obstetrics and gynecology, as well as vascular and cardiac imaging, according to the company.
