ASRT donates $10,000 for Haiti disaster relief
The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has made a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross International Response Fund for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

“We have heard an outpouring of concern from our members about how they can help with the relief efforts in Haiti,” said ASRT CEO Sal Martino, EdD, RT. “We believe the best way to assist is by financially supporting the American Red Cross, which is providing immediate assistance with shelter, food and health care needs through its established disaster relief programs.”

The ASRT also will make an additional, separate donation to the Red Cross to match contributions collected by its 100 employees. “We will match, dollar for dollar, the contributions raised by our staff,” said Martino.

The ASRT said it has been contacted by radiologic technologists who wish to volunteer their services as health care workers in Haiti. Most emergency aid organizations are sending existing teams that are already prepared in setting up and managing international emergency operations, and are not accepting volunteers who have no previous training in disaster relief operations.
