Bulgaria launches eHealth card pilot
The Bulgarian Ministry of Health and the country’s National Health Insurance Fund have begun piloting the use of electronic health cards from InterComponentWare (ICW), a San Mateo, Calif.-based eHealth technology provider.

According to the company, each eHealth card stores the personal data of the patient, the issuer and card number as well as a security certificate. In addition, electronic prescriptions covered by the Bulgarian health insurance fund will be recorded on the card.

The pilot program will initiate this month with the selection of 1,000 patients from Slivnitza and Aldomirovzi, who will be issued the eHealth cards by their general practitioners as part of their regular doctor visits, ICW said.
