Calif. Blue Shield awards nearly $4 million to improve healthcare access, IT
Blue Shield of California Foundation (BSCF) announced grants totaling $3.98 million allocated to expand access to healthcare and coverage, support the use of health information technology and promote healthy relationships.

Highlights from the grants include:
  • $1.95 million to support research in health and technology;
  • $1.86 million to strengthen California’s community clinic safety net; and
  • $173,000 to reduce teen dating violence incidents through technology and education programs.
The current grants represent the BSCF third quarter of 2007 grant making, which now totals $22.6 million for the year. In 2006, BSCF awarded $27.1 million in grants and allocated more than $1 million to additional program activities that support public education materials, forums, convenings and commissioned research.
