Carefx allies with CA, IBM and Initiate to deliver eHealth to Louisiana
The Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange, in conjunction with the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition (LRHC) and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport (LSUHSC-S), has selected an integrated platform to create a federated, patient-centric, regional eHealth initiative.

The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Carefx said it would join CA, IBM and Initiate Systems to deploy and maintain a secure infrastructure for electronic sharing of clinical information between community providers in North Louisiana and the LSUHSC-S.

Carefx said the integrated platform employs a federated approach to providing clinicians with secure access to a portal-based view of patient-centric data housed in disparate applications across multiple hospitals. IBM Websphere and Fusion from Carefx will provide the portal framework for the aggregate view of patient data, according to the company.

Carefx said its implementation will begin immediately with a projected go-live date of March 2008 for physician access.

Seven of the 24 LRHC hospitals will participate in the first year: Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi; Homer Memorial Hospital in Homer; Union General Hospital in Farmerville; LaSalle General Hospital in Jena; Hardtner Medical Center in Olla; DeSoto Regional Health System in Mansfield; and Bunkie General Hospital in Bunkie.

The LRHC provides its 41 member hospitals with regulatory, legal, financial and legislative advocacy for both member hospitals and provider-based rural health clinics.
