ECRI provides tools for medical suppliers and service buy
Buyers of medical equipment can use ECRI, a nonprofit health services research agency, as a guide. The ECRI Health Devices International Sourcebase and the 2006 Health Devices Sourcebook are now available as a reference.

Health Devices International Sourcebase, an international web-based database of medical device manufacturers and suppliers and their products, contains information on products from more than 15,000 manufacturers and distributors of medical equipment-from minimally invasive surgery equipment to emergency preparedness products. It also includes data on more than 1,200 service companies who lease, repair, and sell used equipment. Updated monthly, Sourcebase allows immediate access to data and links users directly to key personnel e-mail addresses and company web sites, the organization said.

Sourcebase is intuitive and includes information ranging from medical devices to furniture, disposables, with details such as price ranges, cross-reference terms, commonly used names for each device, and a description of the device and how it is used. Supplier profiles allow users to view general company information, including history, annual sales, and financial information as well as executive contacts with direct e-mail links, where available.
