FDA greenlights Abbott's blood glucose test strips
The FDA has granted Abbott Diabetes Care 510(k) clearance for its FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips, which minimize interference by using a GDH-FAD enzyme that is unaffected by non-glucose sugars.

The Alameda, Calif.-based company said that standard test strips utilize the GDH-PQQ enzyme, which has the potential to be affected by non-glucose sugars maltose or galactose and could interfere with testing. According to Abbott, the test trips are compatible with FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitoring systems.

Abbott said that the FreeStyle Lite test strips will ship to customers in July and will be widely available in August.
