GE to build N.Y.-based mammography machine plant
GE Healthcare has set plans to build a new plant in Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush, N.Y. worth $135 million, The Business Review of Albany, N.Y. reports. The 150,000 square-foot manufacturing plant, made possible through a state grant totaling $10 million, will be known as the GE Healthcare Digital X-Ray Manufacturing Facility. The facility will be used to build digital x-ray mammography machines and will employ as many as 150 workers, 50 of which will come from the GE Global Research Center in Niskayuna, Japan, the development site of the digital x-ray technology. The plant is expected to open in September 2008.
