GE introduces clinical information system for OR
At this week’s HIMSS 2006, GE Healthcare Integrated IT Solutions introduced Centricity Perioperative 7.4, an integrated surgery management and anesthesia system for clinicians featured within GE’s Enterprise and Departmental IT portfolio, the company said.

“We’ve pooled GE’s collective expertise in the operating room and healthcare information systems development to deliver a Perioperative IT offering that gives clinicians the tools and resources they require in the OR of the future…. today,” said Brandon Savage, chief medical officer, GE Healthcare Integrated IT Solutions. “Our system creates a centralized source of information for the entire clinical team to access patient information, communicate and document patient status and treatment throughout the pre-operative to post-operative continuum of care, and capture it all in one electronic medical record.”

In addition to its integrated functionality, Centricity Perioperative offers critical functionality in its respective modules. The Perioperative Manager module helps the medical team schedule cases, manage materials and resources, document intraoperative treatment, track the patient’s location during any part of the process, and afterward evaluate the true costs of each patient case through tracking and cost analysis and reporting.  Its anesthesia module allows physicians to track and assess patients and access their medical histories and other test results through an intraoperative cockpit feature.  Through this solution, live monitor data is captured and stored in the patient’s electronic medical record.

The Centricity Perioperative 7.4 applications suite also features integrated modules and options including, nursing documentation, comprehensive doctor preference cards, case-based defaults, inventory management, hospital-defined charge rules, procedure notes and its newest functionality, Sterile Processing Management.
