Health insurer to introduce cards that hold patient data
UnitedHealthcare plans to introduce in January an identification card that will hold the usual member account information and also patients’ medical history details, the Pittsburgh Business Times reports. The company has indicated that it is doing this to save both patients and providers time that could be better used on health concerns rather than paperwork. The new card gives members quick access to account information, enables co-pays through MasterCard terminals, and gives physician secure access details such as medical conditions, prescriptions, medical procedure histories, and lab results.
