Hospital for Special Surgery ortho center tops list
The Hospital for Special Surgery’s (HSS) orthopedics center has earned the number one position atop the “America’s Best Hospital” survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, its rheumatology center earned third place in the survey.

The New York City-based facility pioneered total knee replacement and has perfected minimally invasive knee procedures to speed recovery and reduce patients' hospital stay. It performs more than 18,000 orthopedic surgeries per year.

The survey, conducted by RTI International, of Research Triangle Park, N.C, evaluated 5,462 hospitals with 173 scoring high enough in measures of quality, including mortality and patient volume, to be ranked in at least one specialty for the 2007 list.
