Kodak is now offering a new virtual colonoscopy application on its KODAK DIRECTVIEW PACS System 5 thanks to a partnership announced by Kodak and Viatronix, Inc. last week at the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.  The two have successfully integrated V3D Colon software into Kodak's PACS to enable healthcare professionals to automatically process CT images into three-dimensional models for rapid viewing, diagnosis and report generation.
 
V3D Colon software offers a unique virtual colonoscopy workflow: images of the patient's abdomen and pelvis area are taken using a CT scan while the colon is inflated, and then a three dimensional (3D) model is automatically generated. The physician can then sit at a KODAK DIRECTVIEW workstation and interactively "fly-through" or examine the colon by viewing 3D images that are similar to what is seen in a traditional optical exam. Using one of the many patented software tools, the reader can assess how much of the colon surface has been visualized to ensure the entire colon surface has been examined.

Beginning in the third quarter, Kodak's Health Group will offer Viatronix V3D Colon software worldwide as both an optional enhancement to the KODAK DIRECTVIEW PACS System 5 or as a separate dedicated workstation. Additional details of the two-year agreement were not disclosed.
