MedHost, a provider of the emergency department (ED) information system, has integrated with the FreeNET voice-over wireless-fidelity system from Ascom, a developer of workplace wireless communication solutions.

Interoperability with Ascom of Berne, Switzerland, means that messages and alerts generated in MedHost can be distributed to various types of wireless devices carried by clinicians, even when they are outside of the ED, according to the Addison, Texas-based company.

With Ascom, MedHost alerts and notifications, including test results, patient reassessment reminders, patient registration or discharge, are distributed to any device with email or text message capabilities, MedHost said.
