Medical device provider Medrad has released its pressure-rated extension set (PRES), a disposable tube set used in conjunction with IV access that attaches a patient catheter to power injector tubing.

The Pittsburgh-based Medrad said that PRES reduces the risk of disposable extension set rupture during powered injection of contrast agents or saline when using its CT injection systems.

The company noted that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends only using venous access devices that are compatible with the high pressures achieved when power injecting.
