Siemens releases new CT technology with radiation dose features
Siemens Healthcare has introduced its Excel Edition 16- and 64-slice CT scanners, the Somatom Emotion and Somatom Definition AS CT, which are reportedly equipped with features to help reduce radiation dose.
According to the company, the Excel Edition scanners feature a 0.33 second rotation time, 0.33 mm isotropic resolution, a scan range of up to 200 cm, a 78 cm gantry opening and can hold more than 600 pounds.
Additionally, the scanners come equipped with an adaptive dose shield function to block unnecessary radiation and a Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure (CARE) feature to automatically analyze patient anatomy and adjust levels of dose accordingly.
Both of the Excel Edition CT scanners will be available in May 2010, the company said.
