TechniScan Medical Systems awarded $3.5 million in grants
TechniScan Medical Systems (TMS), a Salt Lake City-based developer of ultrasound technology for breast imaging, has been awarded two new small business innovation research (SBIR) grants totaling more than $267,000 from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

TMS said it has been selected to participate in the National Institutes of Health’s Commercialization Assistance Program to further develop its UltraSound CT imaging system. Funding of the commercialization assistance program begins immediately and run through June 2008.

According to TMS, it has received a total of $3.5 million from NIH; approximately $1.7 million in Phase II of a previous NCI-SBIR grant in 2007 and an additional $900,000 to support clinical testing of the imaging system during 2008 at the University of California San Diego in La Jolla, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
