Two storage giants' partner
IBM and Network Appliance have formed a strategic storage relationship to drive information on-demand systems and to expand IBM's portfolio of storage technology.

The companies said they are entering into an OEM agreement that will enable IBM to sell IBM branded systems based on NetApp's unified and open network attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI/IP SAN technology, including NearStore and the NetApp V-Series systems, as well as associated software offerings.

The agreement also includes enhanced integration of NetApp applications with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager software. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager is a preferred backup and recovery software for NetApp products and a key offering of the IBM TotalStorage Open Software family.

NetApp said it will position IBM as its preferred supplier of tape systems in its systems for NetApp customers.

Finally, the two companies said they will be exploring additional strategic opportunities.
