McKesson has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Emendo, which develops CapPlan Predictive Capacity Planning technology to forecast patient demand and provide clinicians with an enterprise-wide view of activity to make adjustments for patient flow and staffed capacity allocations.

The CapPlan technology represents an extension of the McKesson Enterprise Intelligence and Workforce Management Solutions suites, according to San Francisco-based McKesson, which said that health systems can use capacity management technology to fine-tune staffing requirements, procedure scheduling and resource utilization. Emendo, based in Christchurch, New Zealand, said its CapPlan technology is implemented in more than 40 hospitals throughout New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the U.K. to forecast patient demand and plan resourcing.
