Temporary processing freeze on some FDG PET claims begins

A temporary processing freeze on claims for FDG PET scans for solid tumors begins this week.

Claims submitted from October 6 through November 10 will be held while the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) works to update and test its claims processing systems to ensure it can accurately calculate payments. Specifically, the freeze applies to claims containing “Healthcare Common procedure Coding System (HCPCS) A9552 for all oncologic conditions,” according to CMS.

CMS said held claims will be processed beginning November 11 after the system has been fully tested, with no additional action required by providers.
