Following the herd may lead you to make less moral decisions, as people exhibit less activity in the medial prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain tasked with reflection and morality, when they become part of a team.

The findings, published in NeuroImage, were based on a study in which participants played a game in which they had to react to messages related to morality. When told they were participating in the game on a team with others, their prefrontal cortex activity was reduced.
