Home colon cancer test prompts colonoscopies

Could a home colon cancer test boost screening rates, especially in underserved populations? That was the question asked by researchers at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research.

The researchers sent home kits for a fecal immunochemical test to more than 200 patients of a clinic in Portland, Ore. About one-third used them and mailed them back, and of the seven patients who received a positive result, all but one went in for a follow-up colonoscopy.
