Brigham & Womens adds Siemens SOMATOM Definition CT systems
Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH), the 777-bed teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has purchased an additional four CT systems from Siemens Medical Solutions: two SOMATOM Definition AS 40-slice and two SOMATOM Definition AS+ 128-slice systems.

The Siemens team upgraded BWH’s four existing units—two SOMATOM Emotion 16-slice and two Sensation 64-slice—as part of its equipment contract. The terms of the new agreement with BWH will extend the contract for an additional nine years.

As a result of the new agreement, BWH was able to upgrade to the newer equipment without altering its monthly payments, and obtain new functionality, according to Siemens

The new CT scanners will be installed in four locations at BWH, including the emergency and interventional departments, patient tower and an offsite, outpatient imaging facility. Installation of these units is expected to be complete by early 2009.
