EMC to build $31.5M patient archiving system in Finland
EMC will build a centralized patient record archiving system for the Social Insurance Institution of Finland in a contract estimated to be worth $31.5 million.

The new archiving system, to be called KanTa, will provide all 5.3 million Finnish residents with access to their personal medical information and will serve 300,000 healthcare professionals at public healthcare organizations and pharmacies, as well as private medical clinics across Finland, according to the Hopkinton, Mass.-based company.

The system will offer electronic prescribing functionality by late 2008 and is expected to also function as a data and image archive by 2009. Its storage capacity could reach 500 pentabytes within 10 years of implementation, EMC said.
