Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc. and the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics (UUHC) have unveiled a five-year agreement for cooperative research and development activities, as well as plans for educational programs and a contract to purchase Siemens medical imaging systems.
Among the facilities to benefit from the agreement is the Huntsman Cancer Institute, which operates in association with UUHC. The facility will be equipped with Siemens' systems, such as ultrasound, MRI and CT, as well as positron emission tomography (PET) and digital mammography systems. Access to Siemens imaging equipment will help launch new directions in cancer research as it opens the Huntsman Cancer Research Hospital in the second quarter of 2004.
Addressing matters such as the acute needs of radiological technologists, Siemens and UUHC plan to develop educational programs. Activities will include modality-specific software training, week-long fellowships and funding for students attending the UUHC radiological technologist program.
