Florida rad practice reports possible patient-info breach

A nine-location radiology practice in southwest Florida is letting its patients know that their paper records may be at risk of falling into the wrong hands.

In an announcement posted to its website Feb. 15, Radiology Regional Center says the records were fumbled last December in Fort Myers by Lee County Solid Waste Division when the county government body was transporting them to an incinerator.

The practice says only a small number of records were affected, but the lost paperwork may contain patient names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, dates of birth and other sensitive medical, insurance and financial information.
