NYCLIX contracts First Consulting Group for HIE improvements
Regional health information organization NYCLIX announced the formation of a contract with First Consulting Group (FCG) for its FirstGateways technology. The Long Beach, Calif.-based FCG will provide the technical infrastructure for NYCLIX's health information exchange services, which will allow clinical data to be exchanged securely among the participating NYCLIX provider organizations and used by clinicians at the point of care.

According to the New York City-based NYCLIX, its participants provide some 840,000 emergency visits annually, as well as 470,000 discharges, 6.8 million outpatient visits, and 5.9 million home visits, and studies show that information gaps are present in emergency department (ED) visits. NYCLIX said the contract will allow physicians in EDs access to clinical data about the patient from other participating organizations.

New York State, under the Health Efficiency and Affordability Law New York State, will contribute $2.33 million toward the transition. NYCLIX has also received funding from the National Institutes of Health and the New York Community Trust, according to the organization.
