OhioHealth, a nonprofit healthcare organization, has contracted with MinuteClinic for healthcare services in seven central Ohio locations.
MinuteClinic, the retail healthcare division of Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Caremark, operates clinics within CVS pharmacy/stores. These clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners employed by MinuteClinic, who provide treatment for common illnesses and administer wellness and prevention services and health condition monitoring.
Under the agreement, physicians affiliated with Columbus-based OhioHealth will serve as medical directors for MinuteClinic locations in central Ohio. MinuteClinic and OhioHealth also will collaborate on patient education and disease management initiatives. OhioHealth will accept patients who need a level of care that is not provided at MinuteClinic, the organizations stated.
MinuteClinic and OhioHealth will integrate their EMR systems to streamline communication around patient care. With patient consent, MinuteClinic will share medical history and visit summaries with other OhioHealth and MinuteClinic locations in the region. In addition, MinuteClinic will send visit summaries via fax or mail to the patient’s primary care physician, when possible, typically within 24 hours.
