Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Fla., has installed a Siemens Healthcare Somatom Definition Flash dual-source CT scanner.

The Somatom Definition Flash enables the use of noninvasive cardiological diagnostic techniques with routine applications at radiation exposure levels routinely below 1 mSv, the company said. An adaptive dose shield blocks radiation during spiral scanning, according to Siemens.

In addition, the firm said that the system's X-Care application reduces radiation exposure to dose-sensitive anatomical regions--such as thyroid, gonads and breast region--by as much as 40 percent.
